Celebrate with Idle-Free Windsor during the Citizen Environment Alliance’s Sixth Annual SmogFest. SmogFest'07 is a month long educational festival that includes art exhibits, movie nights, public forums and a closing gala at Milk Coffee Bar. At the Jefferson Ontario Early Years Centre (2165 Jefferson), on Friday May 4, 2007 at 10am, Idle-Free Windsor presented the harmful effects of vehicle idling as it relates to children's health. Parents learned what they can do to protect their children from the harmful effects of vehicle emissions.


Student leaders from across Windsor and Essex County who are interested in environmental initiatives attended the First Annual Environmental Leadership Summit at Riverside Secondary School on Thursday, May 3, 2007 from 9am to 5pm.

Presenters included Dr. Lynn Perreault (Idle-Free Windsor) who spoke on "Action Planning Your Environmental Campaign," and Ms. Suzanne Friemann (Citizens Environment Alliance) who spoke about "Funding Opportunities: Bringing Your Environmental Campaign to Life." Congratulations go out to those students from Kennedy, Riverside, and W.G. Davis who won Idle-Free Zone t-shirts!!


At the Ouellette Ontario Early Years Centre (660 Ouellette Ave.), on Wednesday May 2, 2007 at 11am, Idle-Free Windsor presented the harmful effects of vehicle idling as it relates to children's health. Parents learned what they can do to protect their children from the harmful effects of vehicle emissions.


At the College Ontario Early Years Centre (3115 College Ave.), on Tuesday May 1, 2007 at 10am, Idle-Free Windsor presented the harmful effects of vehicle idling as it relates to children's health. Parents learned what they can do to protect their children from the harmful effects of vehicle emissions.


At the Amherstburg Ontario Early Years Centre on Monday April 30, 2007 at 10am, Idle-Free Windsor presented the harmful effects of vehicle idling as it relates to children's health. Parents learned what they can do to protect their children from the harmful effects of vehicle emissions.


Idle-Free Windsor was on display at the Clifton Grant Award Banquet on Friday, April 27, 2007, at 6pm (Serbian Centre, 6770 Tecumseh Rd. E.). Dr. Lynn Perreault and Vittorio Sbrocca from the Citizens Environment Alliance’s Idle-Free Windsor project gratefully received the Clifton Grant Cancer Prevention Award for their efforts at educating the Windsor community about the harmful effects of vehicle idling.


On Earth Day (Sunday, April 22, 2007) from 10am to 4pm at MicMac Park, the Citizens Environment Alliance was on display. Thanks to all community members who dropped by and supported us! Whether big or small, every environmentally friendly action makes a difference. Keep up the great work!


From 10am - 3pm on Saturday, April 21, 2007, Idle-Free Windsor hosted a display during the Family Expo at the Forest Glade Arena Complex (3205 Forest Glade Dr.). We had a great time during this day of family fun… Big thanks go to everyone who entered our draw. Congratulations to Martha McLeod for winning a family gift certificate for indoor rock climbing at Gibraltar Climbing Company!!


At the Sandwich Ontario Early Years Centre (3312 Sandwich St.), on Wednesday, April 18, 2007 at 10:30am, Idle-Free Windsor presented the harmful effects of vehicle idling as it relates to children's health. Parents learned what they can do to protect their children from the harmful effects of vehicle emissions.


On Tuesday, April 10, 2007, students from grades 4 to 8 at Central Elementary School participated in an Idle-Free Windsor presentation. Students learned what they can do to reduce the harmful health, environmental, and financial effects of vehicle idling.


On Monday, April 9, 2007, Idle-Free Windsor presented some vehicle idling issues to Dr. Chung-Yan's Social Psychology class. In addition to learning about the harmful health, environmental and financial effects of vehicle emissions, students learned how social psychological theories and principles have been applied to Idle-Free Windsor's idle-reduction campaign.


At the Lassaline Early Years Centre (3145 Wildwood), on Wednesday, April 4, 2007 at 10am, Idle -Free Windsor presented the harmful effects of vehicle idling as it relates to children's health. Parents learned what they can do to protect their children from the harmful effects of vehicle emissions.


At the Wyandotte West Ontario Early Years Centre (1556 Wyandotte W.), on Tuesday, April 3, 2007 at 10am, Idle-Free Windsor presented the harmful effects of vehicle idling as it relates to children's health. Parents learned what they can do to protect their children from the harmful effects of vehicle emissions.


On Thursday, March 29, 2007, Idle-Free Windsor attended a HEALTH FAIR at Immaculate Conception Catholic Elementary School from 4pm – 7pm. Over 200 parents and children attended. We enjoyed seeing you there!


On Wednesday, March 28, 2007, students from St. Joseph's High School participated in an Idle-Free Windsor presentation. Many students and teachers were involved in learning about the idling issues.


On Tuesday, March 20, 2007, Idle-Free Windsor presented Windsor's anti-idling by-law and related idling issues to City of Windsor Officers. The Officers learned the truth about idling myths, as well as the harmful health, environmental and financial effects of idling. Congratulations to the two prize winners!


On Friday, March 2, 2007, Riverside Secondary School students participated in an Idle-Free Windsor presentation. On Tuesday, February 13, 2007, Idle-Free Windsor attended Dr. David Suzuki’s “If you were Prime Minister…” presentation at Walkerville Collegiate Institute. On February 1, 2007, grade 6 students from Eastwood Elementary participated in an Idle-Free Windsor presentation. After the presentation, the students created some posters that might convince drivers to stop idling unnecessarily when they are parked. Idle-Free Windsor was at Kennedy Collegiate Institute the week of January 22 to 26, 2007. Students in Mr. Reid's Canadian and World Studies class learned how to conduct an anti-idling blitz as part of a week-long class project. On Wednesday, January 24th, they approached motorists who were waiting to pick up students at the end of the school day. By handing out print materials, discussing Windsor's anti-idling by-law, and encouraging drivers to turn off their engine as they wait, the students aimed to reduce motorists' idle time. The anti-idling blitz was successful in reducing idle times from 9 minutes to 5 minutes! Way to go Kennedy!! click for more info


Congratulations to Derek Coronado, host of the Jammy-Award-winning CEA radio show, Alternatives. That's right, "Alternatives" won the 2006 "Best Spoken Word Show" Jammy Award. Alternatives runs weekly from noon to 1pm every Friday on CJAM (91.5 FM), tackling current issues on the environment.


On December 14th and 15th, 2006, grades 10 to 12 Science students from Walkerville Collegiate participated in an Idle-Free Windsor presentation. Our presentations at the University of Windsor on Nov. 28 and 29 were quite successful. Congratulations to Taryn O'Reilly who won a $25 gift certificate from Rock Bottom Bar and Grill.


The Citizens Environment Alliance’s Fuel Management 101 workshop (presented by Natural Resources Canada) was a great success! Sixteen fleet managers attended the workshop on November 1st, representing local businesses and municipalities from Owen Sound, Guelph, London, Chatham, and Windsor. Throughout the day, workshop attendees learned how to create a fuel management business plan for their vehicle fleets. By the end of the day, fleet managers walked out with an extensive fuel management action plan designed to save on fuel costs and protect the environment.
