Concern raised in Windsor over a refinery in Detroit January 29, 2016 06:28 from Rusty Thomson A plan to increase emissions at a refinery in Detroit has raised concerns on this side of the border. The Marathon Petroleum Corporation wants to boost emissions of certain pollutants, including sulphur dioxide. The company just west of Zug Island has applied to the Michigan Department of Environmental Quality for permission. Derek Coronado, the Coordinator of the Citizen's Environment Alliance and a member of the Windsor-Essex County Environment Committee, is opposed. He says "the move goes against the Canada-US Air quality Agreement." The committee is recommending that a joint city-county letter be sent opposing the move. © Copyright (c) AM800 News |
